End of Year Book Survey 2013

best books 2013 end of year survey

To round off my 2013 reading year, I’m completing the end of year book survey created by Jamie at the Perpetual Page Turner. This is split into 3 parts – best books, blogs and goals for 2014 so here goes!

Best YA book 2013
I’m gonna try so hard to not repeat anys

1. Best Book You Read In 2013? (If you have to cheat — you can break it down by genre if you want or 2013 release vs. backlist)
Contemporary YA – Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Not a lover of the contemporary genre but this one was too cute to resist
Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic – Divergent by Veronica Roth. This was a toughie but it was spectacular so, nuff said
Historical Fiction – The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. Even though it was probably the only historical fiction I read this year, I don’t think it can be topped by another, it was amazing!!
Paranormal — The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead. I discovered Vampire Academy this year and it’s spin-off Bloodlines <3 Adrian!
Science Fiction — The Host by Stephanie Meyer. The movie trailer got me so excited that I had to read the book first, I’m so glad I did.
Fantasy — City of Glass by Cassandra Clare. Why Why Why? did I wait so long to read this! I am a numpty!

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I’ve gone into my reasons for disliking this book multiple times, I’m not explaining this AGAIN!

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. I wasn’t a fan of Clockwork Angel but I gave book 2 a chance and it definitely delivered.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I gotta reread before the movie comes out!

Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. I’m sorry! I couldn’t get a copy until then!
 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2013?
“Very slowly using two fingers, Annabeth drew her dagger. Instead of dropping it, she tossed it as far as she could into the water.
Octavian made a squeaking sound. “What was that for? I didn’t say toss it! That could’ve been evidence. Or spoils of war!”
Annabeth tried for a dumb-blonde smile, like: Oh, silly me. Nobody who knew her would have been fooled. But Octavian seemed to buy it. He huffed in exasperation.
“You other two…” He pointed his blade a Hazel and Piper. “Put your weapons on the dock. No funny bus–“
All around the Romans, Charleston Harbor erupted like a Las Vegas fountain putting on a show. When the wall of seawater subsided, the three Romans were in the bay, spluttering and frantically trying to stay afloat in their armor. Percy stood on the dock, holding Annabeth’s dagger.
“You dropped this,” he said, totally poker-faced.”

Longest — Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. Do rereads count? If not then The Host by Stephanie Meyer.

25. Book That Was The Most Fun To Read in 2013?

Allegiant by Veronica Roth. Cried for 90 mins straight, I don’t think I should elaborate.
27. Book You Read in 2013 That You Think Got Overlooked This Year Or When It Came Out?
United We Spy by Ally Carter. I feel like thuis series is relatively unknown, or at least among the people who I know which is a real shame because I love it and it ended this year 🙁

2014 Challenges

2014 is swiftly approaching and it’s time to set my reading targets. I have thought about this a lot and am aiming to read much less next year because this is an important school year for me. I have mock exams, then my maths GCSE meanwhile there are buckets of controlled assessments to do so i need to let my education take center stage this year. Nevertheless, I have so many books I want to read, I’m not putting my reading on hold for schoolwork so my target for 2014 is to read 75 books for the whole year. As well as this, i plan to take part in a few challenges.

I have already metioned ———‘s 2014 series challenge to finish as many series as I can this year but I also aim to complete the 2014 Women Challenge at Wonder Woman Level, meaning that I’ll try to read 20+ books by female authors throughout the year, created by peekabookit.

Thirdly, I want to explore new genres so I’m attempting the Reading-Outside-the-Box challenge created by themosthappyreader.

Only one this week as it’s been a busy week what with Christmas and visiting family and all so this week I read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell (review on it’s way) which was amazing and heartbreaking and romantic and wow!

TBR for the coming week

I’m in the middle of Born at Midnight by C.C Hunter and if I enjoy that I will start on Awake at Dawn, the second book in the series and if I finish that one too, I’m going to make a start on Throne of Glass I think! Ooh exciting!

Christmas

Hello! Sorry it’s been a while! I flew home to Scotland for Christmas so that’s been happening and I’ve been visiting family an whatnot for the past 4 days. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and got plenty of books! I know I certainly did but you’re going to have to wait until my wrap up on Sunday to find out what! Got lots of Dr Who stuff! Yay!

How was your Christmas (if you celebrate it!) what books did you give? What did you get? Comment below and tell me!

December 23rd – A Book I Have Wanted to Read for a Long Time But Still Haven’t

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
So this book seems to describe what I think will be my life in 5 years and I’m not even kidding. When I’m 20 years old, I will still be hung up on Harry Potter, still be a social recluse and still be a booklion. I have had his on my kindle forever but never got round to reading it and I want to so bad (it’s next on my lost I promise!). I finished Eleanor and Park this morning and it has intensified my thirst for this book even more, so I’ll get on it! I’m about 17% through and it’s already hilarious and amazing! Cath definitely is me from the future but hen again most who have read it have said the same so she can’t be all of us!

Weekly Wrap Up

Week 16th December – 22nd December

What I read this week
I was productive!! I read 3 books this week!! (3.5 cuz I’m halfway through Eleanor and Park)
I finished Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout and it was fantastic! The sassy characters brought the story to life. There seemed to be a slight overuse of he phrase “and the the shit hit the ceiling” but otherwise amazing!
I also read Notorious Nineteen and Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich. The former was a bundle of fun which referenced Greys Anatomy and made my day along with a lot of hospital themed hilarity. The latter was my one and only Christmas read which involved a theiving toy maker named Sandy Claws and a group of enraged elves.
Books I bought this week

Only one buy this week: The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black which came highly recommended to me from a bunch of book tubers and as I was strolling around London, I pooped into a bookshop and it was just sitting on the shelf, I needed it! So that was about 20 mins ago!
I am not posting a list of all of my posts this week as I am on holiday without my laptop so I can’t link any of them x I might get it done on Thursday but don’t hold me to that! My posts are gonna be foo up at weird times ur to time zone changes so sorry!!

December 22nd – My Favourite book I own

Well guys, seeing as I do own my all time favourite book and I’m saving that for the 30th, I’m gonna do my favourite book currently in my possession (as in like, took with me) to which the answer has I be my wreck this journal! I’m having great fun wrecking it x here are some pics
This one isn’t done. I have more dr who stuff to add and I need to put in the time segments from catching fire

Done by my lovely sister who bought a wreck this journal in the airport this morning (or yesterday afternoon? It’s so confusing!)

December 21st – Favourite Book from My Childhood

When I was 7 or 8 I got obsessed with Enid Blyton books! You know like Malory Towers, St Claires, The Secret Seven, The Famous Five and, my favoutite The Magic Faraway Tree. I was addicted to The Magic Faraway Tree! To anybody who doesn’t know, it’s about these 3 siblings who move out to the countryside with their parents and there is a big forest backing onto their house called the Enchanted Forest and slap bang in the middle of it is the Magic Faraway Tree, which is not only inhabited by a cast of curious characters such as Moonface or Silky the Fairy but at the top of the tree comes a new land each day. The land of Goodies, the Land of Take-What-You-Like and some not so nice ones like Topsy-Turvy Land and the Land of Old Dame Trot. It was just the best thing!! I think they made it into a cartoon tv show which I saw a couple of episodes of but it couldn’t live up to my expectations of the books.
Malory Towers was ace too! It was about a girl called Darrell Williams and the adventures she and her friends had at their English boarding school. Tales of Midnight Feasts, Pranks played on gullible French teachers and the spoiled Gwendoline getting her comeuppance every two seconds, Malory Towers was such a fun read!

It’s not Just About Books – Grey’s Anatomy

So I decided to create an original meme on here which anybody is welcome to try. it’s going to be a weekly meme to be posted on Saturdays which will give me the chance to post about my favourite things which AREN’T books because if you didn’t know already, I watch a LOT of TV and I want to have people to talk about with it. So yeah, If you decide to take part then please leave a link to here and link me to yours so that I can see it!

I’m going to talk about my love of Grey’s Anatomy this week! Do I have any fellow anatomaniacs reading this? If you didn’t already know then firstly, why the hell not? And secondly, Grey’s anatomy is a medical drama tv show on abc on Thursdays and I love it!
